Grimshaw Wins The Lubetkin Prize
Southern Cross Station Melbourne Building Design
celebrated British architecture practice Grimshaw announce that Southern Cross Station in Melbourne has been awarded the prestigious Lubetkin Prize by the Royal Institute of British Architects. The Lubetkin Prize is given annually to the most outstanding building outside the European Union.
British architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw said of the station’s success: “I am thrilled that Southern Cross Station has been awarded both an RIBA Award and the Lubetkin Prize. The design team, in association with Jackson Architecture, has created a ground breaking and landmark station, wholly unique in Australia.

It is excellent that the station is now being recognised worldwide.” The design firm are headquartered in London, UK, but operate across the globe. Nicholas Grimshaw, alongside Norman Foster and Richard Rogers, was strongly associated with the Hi-Tech architectural movement that dominated the 1980s British architecture scene.
This latest success for the station complements three awards from the Australian Steel Institute’s 2006 Vic/Tas Steel Awards, the Australian Construction Achievement Award 2007 and the Victorian Industry Capability Network’s Industry Achievement Award.
