Key Residential Properties in Australia - New Homes
New Australian Houses
We've selected what we feel are the key examples of Australian Houses. We aim to include projects that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed properties, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Australia. The focus is on contemporary homes but information on traditional residential buildings is also welcome.
We have 4 pages of Australian house selections with links to many individual project pages.

Hawkesbury River House, NSW
Lindsay Johnston

Hawkesbury River House - 7 Jan 2013
It is a holiday house with living/dining/kitchen opening to a large deck overlooking the waterfront and with four self-contained bedrooms accessed from an open roofed verandah stepping up the hill at the rear from a small courtyard which captures available sun and is protected from the prevailing winds.
Boustred House, Mosman, Sydney Middle Harbour, NSW
Design: ian moore architects

House in Mosman - 5 Oct 2012
This project is located in Mosman on a north facing slope looking across Sydney's Middle Harbour to the Spit Bridge and Clontarf. The site falls away dramatically from a broad and densely landscaped verge on the street frontage, with a high sandstone cliff forming the southern boundary. The house is nestled into this cliff, shielding it from the street, where it appears as a single storey, focusing attention on the magnificent view to the north.
Brisbane Street Additions, Perth, Western Australia
Design: rad architecture

Brisbane Street Additions - 15 Aug 2012
Conceived as a riposte to the Local Authority’s requirement that we superficially 'decorate' a large expanse of wall on the western boundary, rad architecture’s concept for the Brisbane Street Additions was drawn from the lifestyle of our clients. Our design response was to “redefine the edge” to create a boundary on the move, in tension and compression, not necessarily straight and challenging the traditions of structure and container.
Cloud House, North Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria
Architect: McBride Charles Ryan

photo : John Gollings
Cloud House - 23 Jul 2012
The Cloud House is an addition and renovation to a double-fronted Edwardian house in Fitzroy North. Over the course of close to a century, this house has received several additions and modifications. McBride Charles Ryan's work for the house is designed in three parts. This allows for a sequence of distinct and unexpected episodes, with glimpses previewing oncoming spaces and experiences as you move through the home.

Albatross Avenue House
Situated on an exclusive residential street, the site adjoins extensive park to the south and absolute beachfront to the east. The residence successfully achieves its own oasis, by capturing beachfront vista and access whilst maintaining a private yet expansive pool and entertaining core. It is designed to accommodate a growing family, multiple guests and frequent entertaining.
Amalfi Residence

Amalfi Residence
This two storey river front home is situated on an established residential island in Australia’s Gold Coast. Intimately designed by the architect for his young active family, the residence reflects their dynamic outdoor lifestyle and love of the water. With easy access to the river, the house draws towards the southern waterfront while maintaining a playful but private street façade.
