Studio based in Germany
Sauerbruch Hutton is an international agency for architecture, urbanism
and design, founded in 1989. The practice currently employs about 80 staff
and is engaged in a number of projects throughout Europe. Their work has
become recognized internationally for its serious engagement with issues
of sustainability in architecture and urbanism, at the same time as for
the creation of sensual spaces and signature facades.
Sauerbruch Hutton are best known for the GSW Headquarters building in Berlin
(1999), the Federal Environmental Agency in Dessau (2005) as well as the
recently opened Museum Brandhorst in Munich.
Louisa Hutton and Matthias Sauerbruch have been awarded a number of international
prizes. The architecture of the office has been the subject of numerous
exhibitions and publications worldwide. Further to their work as practising
architects, Hutton and Sauerbruch give lectures and participate in symposia
at many international institutions. Since 2008 they continue their studio
at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, where they are pursuing their ongoing
research into the Language of Sustainability.
