OMA Opens New Office in Hong Kong
OMA Hong Kong
Hong Kong, 5 October 2009 - In addition to its headquarters in Rotterdam
and offices in Beijing and New York, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture
opens a new office in Hong Kong this week to direct a growing number
of projects in the region.
OMA Hong Kong will act as a platform for research and design, and
will execute several projects, including:
" West Kowloon Cultural District conceptual masterplan - a large-scale
conceptual plan aiming to establish Hong Kong as a centre for arts
and culture
" Design development of the Taipei Performing Arts Centre - OMA's
competition-winning scheme for an innovative new theatre complex in
the heart of Taipei
" Ongoing construction of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange - the 200,000m2
headquarters for trading in China's technology sector, scheduled for
completion in 2011
OMA Hong Kong will have a staff of approximately 25 architects and
urban planners, and will be managed by David Gianotten, who joined
OMA in 2008. Gianotten has previously overseen numerous projects and
competitions from Rotterdam, including the Shenzhen Stock Exchange,
a masterplan for Hanoi, and the adesign competition for the International
Criminal Court in The Hague. Gianotten will work closely with OMA
partners Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren.
OMA Hong Kong will be temporarily located in the Cheung Kong Centre
in the offices of McKinsey Hong Kong, before moving to its new office
space in Hong Kong Central in early November.
OMA's Beijing office, led by Ole Scheeren, will continue to operate
as OMA's Asian headquarters.

On OMA:
The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) is a leading international
partnership practicing contemporary architecture, urbanism and cultural
analysis. It is engaged in a large number of projects in Europe, Asia, the
Middle East and North America.
In Asia, OMA recently completed the Prada Transformer, a multi-use rotating
pavilion in Seoul, and won two major competitions, for the Taipei Performing
Arts Centre and Shenzhen Crystal Island, a cultural and transport hub in
the centre of the city. OMA Beijing continues to oversee the construction
of the headquarters for China Central Television, the office's largest project
to date, and is also developing MahaNakhon, a residential tower in Bangkok,
and two innovative residential complexes in Singapore: The Interlace and
Scott's Tower.
OMA is led by six partners: Rem Koolhaas, Ole Scheeren, Ellen van Loon,
Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu and Managing Partner Victor van der
Chijs. Ole Scheeren and Victor van der Chijs are also the directors of OMA
Asia.
