John Miller & Partners - News Architect, teacher, historian and critic Alan Colquhoun has died aged 91 Alan Colquhoun (born 1921) taught at the Architectural Association (AA, London) in 1957-64. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and AA before working for the London County Council in the 1950s. He founded Colquhoun & Miller, a partnership with architect John Miller, in 1961. He wrote key architectural books - The Oxford History of Modern Architecture, Essays in Architectural Criticism and Modernity and the Classical Tradition John Miller & Partners - Key Projects Featured Buildings, alphabetical: The Elizabeth Fry Building, University of East Anglia, England 1994 Tate Britain Centenary development, Millbank, London SW1 2002 £22m Weston Link – Playfair Project, The Mound Edinburgh, Scotland 2005 photo © adrian welch Edinburgh building The Playfair Link was named after William Playfair, who designed both the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy, and was designed by John Miller and Partners, established Gallery architects based in London. The Project is John Miller and Partners' first Scottish building. The £30m building is mostly hidden but the frontage to the gardens, though popular with most of the public, will prove controversial with many architects due to its heaviness and Classical leanings.
