Prix - update 8 Feb 2013 The third edition of INGLASS is about glass and glass construction, architecture and engineering, facade systems and solar energy. INGLASS 2013 addresses the entire glass industry, architects, engineers, glass producers, processors, equipment providers. Wolf D. Prix for Lebbeus Woods 9 Nov 2012 - Lebbeus was the living proof of Derrida’s theory that often a small sketch can have more influence on the world than a large building. And as such we will think of him as a grand architect without built work, but his designs - hey!: they are designs and not drawings! - his conceived buildings and forms had massive impact, which conquered the drawing boards of innumerable students and architects and which put the question about the contents of a future architecture into the foreground. Prix / COOP HIMMELB(L)AU 8 Nov 2012 Coop Himmelb(l)au - Latest Design Silk Leaf Stadium, Tokyo image : Coop Himmelb(l)au Like a modern acropolis, our concept for the new National Stadium of Japan places the arena on a plinth as a sign in the center of the city. A large plaza is created by the plinth forming the main public entryway. The seating tribunes are conceived as landscape elements of the podium, and are covered by a light, shell-like roof touching the ground at only four points. The shell is topped by a retractable photo-voltaic glass roof element that separates into two visible wing-shaped leaves opening the stadium to the sky. Prix at UCLA 'What's the difference #2' Feb 24 2012 6.30pm Venue: Perloff Hall (Decafe) on UCLA campus Wolf D. Prix, a co-founder, Design Principal and CEO of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU located in Vienna. In 1988 a Los Angeles office was opened. He studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology, the Architectural Association of London, and the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. Most formative among his many international teaching positions was his tenure at the University of Applied Arts Vienna: from 1993 to 2011 he was Professor for Architecture (Studio Prix), and continues to serve as Dean of the Institute of Architecture. COOP HIMMELB(L)AU is active in architecture, urban planning, design, and art. The architectural designs have been highly acclaimed and featured in many publications, museums and collections worldwide. COOP HIMMELB(L)AU has received numerous international awards including the ‘RIBA International Award’ for the Akron Art Museum and the ‘RIBA European Award’ for the BMW Welt. The Dedalo Minosse International Prize was handed over by Bruno Gabbiani, president of the Italian association ALA - Assoarchitetti during a festive awards ceremony. According to the organizers the Prize boosts "the quality of architecture looking at final result, analysing and focusing on project and constructive plan process and giving a special attention to people who determine the success of the work: the architect and the client, supported by the project executors (the building firms) and the public administrations". The biennial Dedalo Minosse Prize was founded in 1997 and is currently in its eighth edition. It recognizes the Client's figure as fundamental and strategic in the constructive process. The exhibition of the awarded works, set in CISA, Centro Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio, in Vicenza will be open until September 18, 2011. BMW Welt - Event and Delivery Center, Munich, Germany 2007 photograph from Ketchum GmbH BMW Welt Red Dot Design Award for the High School #9 - the prize was assigned during an awards ceremony on July 4, 2011 in Essen, Germany. The Central Los Angeles Area High School #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts has been awarded the "red dot" seal of quality for high design quality by the jury with its panel of highly respected experts. The design will then be put on public display in the exhibition "Design on stage - winners red dot award: product design 2011" in the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. The red dot design award dates back to 1955 and is now said to be the world's largest and most distinguished design competition. It breaks down into the three disciplines 'red dot award: product design', 'red dot award: communication design' and 'red dot award: design concept'. Coop Himmelb(l)au - Practice Information

This architect practice is famous for unusual, angular buildings. A key early project was a prosthetic guest attached to, and invading, a Vienna building, a major influence on many architecture students in the early 90's. Their architecture could be equated to Expressionist art in that the projects 'explode' and are almost defined by non-cartesian form.
