New House in Shepherd’s Bush
6 Wood Lane is an exuberant and well-loved home, carefully crafted by its owners as a self-build project over more than 7 years. Its idiosyncratic style connects each design aspect; from its curving form hovering above the street, to the detail of a chain operated roof light.

Downley House, Petersfield, Hampshire, southern England, UK
Date built: 2013

Downley House – 5 Sep 2013
This large private house is a tour de force in a technicolour architectural style that derives from that of James Stirling, from whose practice these architects emerged. This means that it is an assemblage of strong primary forms, mostly cylinders and cubes. The entire structure, including the curved elements, is of cross-laminated timber.

Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects – Key Projects

Major architecture developments by this London design studio:

Avenue de Chartres Car Park, Chichester, England, UK
Date built: 1991
Value: £5.2 million approximate building construction cost
Key Awards: RIBA, Civic Trust
900 space car park is located in the historic city of Chichester.
Designed and won in architecture competition, this municipal car park won an RIBA Award and a Civic Trust Award. The Avenue de Chartres Car Park is located facing Chichester’s medieval wall and Cathedral. A new city wall supports an elevated tree lined walkway which screens the multi-deck car park. The new city wall, like the medieval wall, re-establishes the edge of the city and forms the new western approach and entrance portal into Chichester.

Plashet School footbridge, East Ham, east London, UK
Date built: 2000
This is a 67 metre long girder bridge, pedestrian bridge (footbridge) and steel bridge that was completed in 2000. The project is located in Newham. The bridge provides a unifying link for pupils over a busy road between the original school and the 1960’s school building to the north. This London footbridge has a simple steel balustrade and deck structure supported on steel columns and is protected from the weather by a light weight fabric covering stretched over a series of steel hoops.
