Matchbox Amsterdam project : first new-build commission
The Matchbox is an blend of artistic, creative and commercial spaces. The building is shaped specifically as a result of the accommodation of companies and zoning regulations.

The Matchbox houses 22 corporate units, a rooftop restaurant and semi-underground parking in the artistic hub of Amsterdam North. The building lends its playful façade that sticks out cantilevers up to 5 meters, to each unit being individually angled and stacked on top of another to give every company its own space and identity. Bridges constructed above a central atrium garden act as catalyst for the networking between companies while distributing sunlight through the building.

Dutch Design Practice Information

Allard Architecture is a culturally motivated office practicing contemporary architecture, urbanism and research.

Founded in 2006 by Ir. Allard Meine Jansen, the office is located in a legendary boxing school in the Jordaan Area in the Center of Amsterdam.

Allard Architecture keeps an international profile of more than 15 nationalities, and works in close collaboration with a wide network of professionals, consultants and partner architects. The architectural products of the office derive from open design discussions and intellectual exchanges.

Allard Architecture combines innovative design and striking visualizations with market research and feasibility studies in order to make remarkable contributions to the discipline of architecture and surpass the clients expectations.

After graduation, Allard Meine Jansen (b.1970) worked first for Herman Hertzberger, Renzo Piano, Massimiliano Fuksas and De Architekten Cie., before setting up his own practice in 2006. His first built work was the conversion of a former boxing school in Amsterdam into his own home office. Since then he has worked on several studies for property developers.
