Dutch Buildings
We've selected what we feel are the key examples of Amsterdam Architecture. We aim to include buildings in the Dutch capital that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Amsterdam. The focus is on contemporary Dutch buildings but information on traditional architecture is also welcome.

Ziggo Dome - 29 Nov 2012
The sign becomes the building: brightly lit and dark at the same time, the impressive Dome shall not go unnoticed when passing by. This Dutch building is covered with 120,000 LED fixtures, allowing the facade to appear as a video screen on all sides. The 10,000 sqm screen can be used for announcements or to show what is happening inside.

De Kameleon Amsterdam - 10 Jul 2012
De Kameleon is a supersized housing block including a new shopping center and plenty of parking in the area formerly known as Bijlmermeer. The Bijlmer is the one area in the Netherlands that sometimes is considered a ghetto. At the moment the area is going through a radical renovation process: an attempt is being made to turn it into a regular Dutch suburb. Standard low-rise housing is introduced that replaces the 10 storey apartment buildings but also the green spaces in-between them.

Solid 11 Amsterdam - 2 Jul 2012
RIBA Awards 2012 Winner
The client sees his projects as satisfying a need not making a profit; they are designed to last for a century and so have to be adaptable to the needs of unknown occupants.
Spaces were auctioned on the basis of what users would bring to the mix and include restaurants, boutique hotels, a dentist, a hairdresser and artists, alongside regular residential uses.

Junky Hotel Amsterdam - 26 Jun 2012
The Amsterdam-Bijlmermeer housing development, which was erected in the nineteenseventies based on CIAM principles under the direction of Siegfried Nassuth, has been being overhauled since the mid-nineteen-nineties due to a wide range of social and structural problems. In this case, urban renewal means, above all, radically demolishing large-scale, honeycombed housing blocks and replacing them with differentiated, smallscale block development and terraced housing.

Amsterdam Iconic Bridge Competition - various designs
The winning project was able to combine an iconic proposal with a real urban solution. A circuit bringing us to the heights or depths, a partially submerged Ring on an extraordinary equilibrium. It swims and at the same time threatens to fly. It is a solution that engages the user to ponder on the decision of which path to choose: the underwater for a romantic and exploring passage or aerial for a bright and direct path ‐ Ring of pedestrian and environmental activity.
